Events and Major Donor Manager

The Events and Major Donor Manager is responsible for identifying, developing and maintaining relationships focused on supporting individuals to use their resources to further KCA’s mission in a manner most meaningful to the donor. S/he works closely with all team members to manage major donor and sponsorship aspects of the annual gala (The Black Ball) other fundraising and cultivation events, and develop KCA’s Major Donors Program.

Special Events Responsibilities:

  • Support organization of the Black Ball – develop event concepts; including but not limited to theme, event participants and honorees, venue, artistic elements, kick-off and ancillary events;
  • Manages logistics and/or consultants for events, dealing with issues such as facilities, transportation, contracts, seating charts, auctioneer, etc.
  • Creates donor and sponsor opportunities for each project with related benefits and recognition;
  • Cultivating relationships with brands to secure auction items for events;
  • Works with ED and board members to identify and select event participants including talent, honoree(s), event sponsors and committee members
  • Manages all events, including cultivation events, cocktail parties, community hosted fundraising events and endurance events (i.e., 5 Boro Bike Tour, NYC Marathon, AIDS Walk, etc.)
  • Works with Communication team on event related social media and press
  • Works with the support staff to manage volunteers for the events
  • Consults on budgets with Production and Finance
  • Develop strategies to grow each special event
  • Works with KCA staff on the creation and production of event program and run of show
  • Directs creation and management of event logistics; including: event timelines, production schedules, guest experience, and day of schedules
  • Spearheads special projects as determined to further Keep a Child Alive’s fundraising capacity

Major Donor Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive plan for major donors, including strategies on cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans through personal meetings, correspondence, events, activities, KCA website, and social media platforms
  • Proactively identify major donor prospects among individuals, corporations and foundations and develop appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Develops and manages a portfolio of donors while building strong relationships, increasing donor renewal rates, and securing new major gift donors
  • Works with board and committee members, staff and other constituents to prospect new donors
  • Plans major gift strategies for special event attendees and integrates follow-up donor cultivation strategies
  • Prepare written materials, including correspondence, solicitation materials, acknowledgements, events collateral and regular communications for individual donors
  • Develops and implements a calendar of major donor communications
  • Participates in the conceptualization of print and web-based campaign materials for individual donors and cultivation activities
  • Maintain Major Donor records in the database (Raiser’s Edge)

Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Passionate about Keep a Child Alive’s mission
  • Exceptional relationship building and listening skills
  • Comfortable working with various constituencies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment and manage multiple demands
  • At least 5+ years experience with a successful history in organizing donor aspects of Special Events with high net revenue
  • A successful history in working with major donors and securing large-scale gifts
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated leadership
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strategic and creative thinking
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as in a collaborative team-oriented environment
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed to excellence
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and professional demeanor
  • Excellent computer skills: Mac OS, MS Word andExcel, and Google Suite
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge and Luminate Online to maintain/manage major donor records
  • Sense of humor is a must!
