Ever Wanted to Run Across America?
By: Monica Merlis | March 15th, 2016
Whether you live in Idaho, Mississippi, Virginia, or one of 36 other states, this is a chance for you to get more deeply involved with Keep a Child Alive. We’ll be participating in United Relay of America, the first non-stop running relay setting off from Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles … and ultimately ending in New York City. As a runner, you’ll not only be raising funds, but also awareness for Keep a Child Alive.
How Does It Work?
There will be three separate relay routes going across the country starting on April 27th. You can search by the state and choose a route that you want to run – anywhere from 3 to 15.5 miles. You can run alone, invite friends to run your leg together, or join in with larger groups at some key landmarks along the course. All three routes will converge in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, June 4th.
After picking your route and choosing “Keep a Child Alive” as your charity, you will be charged a registration fee of $25 or $50. There is no fundraising minimum to participate, but we do encourage you to set a goal ($360 sounds like a good one!- that is a year’s worth of comprehensive HIV care). If you are the first to sign up for a particular route, then it is your privilege to determine the route between the given start and stop points for that stage. When you’re ready to start fundraising, you’ll be set up with a page to collect donations and you can spread the word to your network – sharing with them how they can help provide lifesaving treatment and care to children and families affected by HIV in Africa and India.
