KCA’s TD Five Boro Bike Tour team: Changed 41 lives in 40 miles
By: Monica Merlis | May 5th, 2014
When you last heard from me, I was trying to recruit you to join me on the TD Five Boro Bike Tour. I also let you in on a secret… that I was absolutely terrified! Well, I’m happy to say that is all a thing of the past now!
On Sunday, May 4th, Keep a Child Alive’s team of 16 passionate riders came together to bike 40 miles throughout the 5 boroughs of New York City. It was a special moment to celebrate the $14,850+ that we have cumulatively raised to benefit KCA. That is the equivalent of 41 children receiving a full year’s worth of HIV treatment, nutritious food, counseling, school supplies, and loving care.
I just have to give a HUGE THANK YOU to our incredible team. I was a bit nervous we wouldn’t be able to fill our team or reach our fundraising goal. In actuality, it was quite the opposite! We needed to obtain more spots for all the interest and we even had someone more than double their fundraising goal in their first 24 hours on our team!
THANK YOU to Alan, Andrew, Beverly, Brigid, Can, Christine, Courtney, Douglas, Fayez, Georgina, Jorge, Marie, Max, Michelle, and Tatiana. It was such an honor to ride with you all!
On a personal level, I am so proud to say my biking fear is now a thing of the past! I have fallen in love with commuting over the bridge to our Manhattan office (it totally beats the subway at rush hour!) and now look forward to long rides on the weekend.
Can’t wait to see you on our team next year!
