Bomu Medical Center

Previous Grant
Mombasa, Kenya

Within the largest slum in Mombasa, Kenya, Bomu Medical Center is putting life back into communities that have been devastated by the AIDS pandemic. The hospital’s HIV clinic is the only site for miles that addresses these needs in their community. Under the leadership of their extraordinary Executive Director, Hayati Anjarwalla, the HIV clinic runs Volunteer Counseling & Testing services, adherence counseling and AIDS treatment. When Keep a Child Alive began funding Bomu, they were treating 157 patients on ARVs. KCA partnered with the Stephen Lewis Foundation to construct a new pediatric wing for Bomu. The new wing allowed Bomu to provide treatment to children, as they had previously only been able to treat adults. Today, the hospital receives more than 250 new patients every month and currently has 1500 children on AIDS treatment.
